Abstract

Little research has been done on the role of tourism in alleviating Africa's chronic economic crisis. This essay discusses the vast potential of tourism as a major foreign exchange earner, particularly within the context of IMF-imposed structural adjustment programs. It also analyzes the costs of promoting tourism and the likelihood of inter-Africa tourism taking off, as advocated by the Economic Commission for Africa. -Authors
